During these past 16 months, so much of our lives have changed. This generation has never faced anything like this before.
Perhaps in this present time you may be a person who is:
- worried about what happens when you die,
- seeking answers about life’s challenges,
- hurting, depressed, angry, hopeless or just
- trying to be good person, but failing over and over again.
The Bible does have the answers to your challenges. The Bible is the book of answers which insures the only sure route through this world and on into the next world. It is the only book that can enable us to meet the emergencies and cushion the shocks of life.
Michael Faraday, perhaps the greatest scientific experimenter back in the 1800’s, said, “But why will people go astray, when they have this blessed book of God to guide them?” Mark Twain, who was no believer, said that he was not disturbed by what he did not understand in the Bible. What worried him were the things he did understand. It was said of John Wesley that he was a man of one Book. What made him a man of one Book? Well, he got up and read the Bible at four and five o’clock every morning—reading it in five different languages. Believe me, he studied the Bible.
The Bible is a God – inspired book. It has been, and still is, God’s communication to man. In the Bible, God says 2,500 times,
“God said…” “The Lord has said…” “Thus saith the Lord…”
God has made it very clear that He is speaking through this book. It is a book that can communicate to you how to live a good life. It shows you how you can become a child of God, saved from the eternal damnation of hell, and ready to be received into heaven one day.
Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
How do we know the Bible is from God and is His Word to mankind?
This is a good question, and it should be asked and answered.
- Preservation — One of the objective proofs as well as external proofs, has been the marvelous preservation of the Bible. There was a king of old—we read about him in Jeremiah 36:23, who, when the Word of God was given to him, took a knife and cut the roll (scroll) to pieces, and then burned them. However, it was rewritten and we have that Word today (Jeremiah 36:32). Down through the centuries, there have been a great many Bible burnings. Today, however, the way they try to get rid of it is just to outlaw it in our schools, and in many other places, or sensor it. Yet, the Bible still exists today, and it’s a best seller.
- Archaeology — Another way in which we can know the Bible is the Word of God is through archaeology. For instance, we are well aware of Roman methods of crucifixion of the first century AD. It is not only from written records in the Bible, but also from the remains discovered by archaeologists of a crucified man discovered at Givat Hamivtar, a site just outside Jerusalem. For centuries, the spade of the archaeologist has turned up, again and again, evidence of the validity of the Bible. 1,000’s of the manuscripts that have been found do that also.
- Fulfilled Prophecy — If I were asked today if I had just one thing to suggest that would be a conclusive proof that the Bible is the Word of God, it would be fulfilled prophecy. Why? The Bible is filled with fulfilled prophecy. One-fourth of the Scripture, when it was written, was prophetic; that is, it announced things that were to take place in the future. There were over 300 prophecies in the Old Testament that foretold the coming of Jesus Christ in the New Testament, and they all came to pass exactly the way they were predicted. For example, in Isaiah 7:14, the prophet Isaiah said that a virgin would bring forth a child. This was prophesied 700 years before it was literally fulfilled in Matthew 1:23. That is quite amazing! Men can’t guess like that; only God can predict the future.
- Transformed Lives — Again, and again, the personal testimonies of people throughout the ages could be multiplied. Countless people, both young and old, have found purpose and fulfilment in life. Many marriages have been saved, families reconciled and reunited, and so many individuals have been freed from the bonds of alcoholism and drug addiction. Their lives have been transformed by reading the Scriptures which pointed them to Jesus Christ who forgives sins and gives eternal life.
